This isn't a controversial post (at least I don't think so). I find this article about drones (unmanned aerial vehicles) to be extremely interesting. I know that in addition to the military's use for them, they are also used in weather related activity. It sounds like, from the article, there is skill involved in interpreting and analyzing images produced by the drones and the military/intelligence community has more work than it can handle. It also sounds like there might be a market for improving drone imaging.

Why isn't this touted as a US job of the future like green jobs? I know, from a general non-college overview class I took on the subject, game players often make good drone "pilots" techhnically but don't often have the maturity to make sound decisions to go along with their technical skills. Why not colleges that teach Drone/Satellite Image Interpretation/Analysis and other classes related to drones?

Maybe because they consider those that lack the maturity to make sound decisions are better suited to become ditch digging drones

So is this a "controversial" thread now?..........

I just read an article on the way drones are changing the nature of wars.
The sociologist interviewed says drones are a major innovation comparable to the airplane or the printing press. Most people don't realize that, though.

He says the reluctance to go to war has decreased considerably as there is much less physical danger involved. War is not even declared anymore, there is no clear line anymore between peace and war.

People operating such military drones go to work like bank employees, they kill people during the day, have a lunch break, and after work they go home and have dinner with their families. There is a disconnect, which causes psychological problems for those operators. They suffer great stress because unlike conventional fighter pilots etc. they see the victims of their actions close-up, the chaos, the corpses etc.

I find those very disturbing developments. It may lead to the unfair situation that the technologically advanced countries behave like dictators towards the rest of the world who don't have drones. It might even force them to develop atomic bombs as the only way to protect themselves.
