We elected him? The "We" that elected him and certainly the we that listened to him during the campaign are getting pretty much what we voted for, thank you very much.
I believe that all society is organic. After all we are organic beings and we control our culture. Therefore, as with anything organic there is a growth period, there is an apex and there is a decline and ultimately death on some level. You cannot get away from it. Our society is in decline and most probably will ultimately die, it is a natural cycle. You can't fix it, and you can't stop it.
as far as FDR, i have to say that i don't think that confiscating / stealing people's gold was the highest moment in our history....nixon was equally bad when he dropped the gold standard.
