No, selfishness is the American way..If your risk hadn't "worked out well" tax payers would have had to eat the bill. It's odd that people appear to find it "liberating" to take uncalculated risks with everybody elses money..Tax payers would have faced the consequences of YOUR weighted decision.

Personally, I took the calculated risk out of lazyness and misplaced priorities. I did have the funds. I simply chose to spend them elsewhere. Later on I did an about face and chose to purchase my own. It was not easy and I had to reorient my financial priorities, but I did it.

As for this bill, I am not unsympathetic to some who do not have healthcare. However, economics is a stern master. This stern master is already warning us and the warnings will become louder and louder.
Without health, there are no economics.

Well I have been without health insurance. Needed and had surgery and didnt think it was someone elses place to pay for it besides me

When I was younger I made the choice to not buy health insurance because I am a normally healthy person

With this bill as is now there isnt really a reason to pay for it all year long because the fine would be cheaper and I can call and get insurance again at any time when I need it

Ultimately I don't care whant individuals "want" or "don't want". Some things are identified as being for the public good and healthcare's time has come. Although we say we live in a FREE COUNTRY with INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS that doesn't mean everyone can do whatever they want at all times. It never has.

Most young people are "normally" healthy until they fall down that flight of stairs and end up in an political ad.

I don't get how the people who claim to be so responsible will gamble with their health when those that will have to pay for that gamble are taxpayers.

No, not cheaper than a fine, but since the healthcare bill gets rid of preexisting conditions, one can simply pay the fine until they get sick, and then buy it to cover their illness.. Its called calculated risk factor...

Thats the point. Since the bill gets rid of preexisting conditions, one can simply go and buy the insurance when its needed to cover bills and then drop it when they dont..

I'll be waiting for someone to tell me how this works out for them. Or not.

So 5 pages in, we have 1 person who "claims" to fit the criteria and 1 who knows someone who fits the criteria. This is about what I expected. Another republican talking point that effects virtually nobody.

Thats because Obamas own figures show about 30M individuals without healthcare coverage, 1/2 of them are illegal aliens, and only 3M individuals without coverage because they CHOOSE to go without coverage. This 3M individuals, who is about 1% of the public, represent 10% of the TOTAL justification to completely redo the whole nations healthcare bill.

All you did was prove with your posting how it was ridiculous to redo the whole nations healthcare coverage to cover 1% of the public who fall into this category..
