David Frum, a speech writer in the Bush White House, and Scott McClellan, the former press secretary to Bush, decried the Tea Parties for their extreme views, like seeking to abolish Social Security. McClellan explained that the Tea Parties have “limited appeal” because they are simply a “divisive protest movement” that “plays too much to people’s fears and hatred”:
Of course they are bad for the GOP. The Tea Party is putting forth true conservatives rather than the progressive RINOs and these folks have real chances of being elected over progressive RINO incumbants. Why is it any surprise that the GOP would want to discredit a threat to its good old boys progressive big government mantra?
Frum has been fired because of his criticism of the GOP. washingtonpost.com
Quote:
Three days after calling health-care reform a debacle for Republicans, David Frum was forced out of his job at the American Enterprise Institute on Wednesday.
The ouster also came one day after a harsh Wall Street Journal editorial ripped the former speechwriter for President George W. Bush, saying he "now makes his living as the media's go-to basher of fellow Republicans" and accusing him of "peddling bad revisionist history."
I believe David Frum is very right. And it takes a lot for me to say that.
Last night for instance on Letterman, he had on some woman, who's president of the Idaho Tea Party (or something like that). A very smart, intelligent older woman, who I honestly, was kinda agreeing with.
Then Letterman asked her to explain some of the 'other' details about the Tea Party...her answers were preposterous at best. I was totally turned off. I was willing to give at least her the chance. I wanted to know more.
This woman said all the right things about taxes and the state of goverment, but she offered no real solutions, and it evolved into distrust. We've seen the same thing from Americans in the past. The Tea Party is nothing new.
They really don't have a plan. They're like roadies for Sarah Palin. The thing in Searchlight, the majority of those people were from outta state. The rally in Arizona, same deal, they take orders from her.

Nothing about the Tea Parties is extremist (were our founders "extremists"?), and they are not "divisive". The majority of Americans agree with them.
"Play[s] to fear and hatred"? Can you give an example? All of the Tea Parties that I have seen any footage of have been peacefull. The violence has come from the left, with SEIU "purple shirts" beating up a black guy, and one man having a finger bitten off by a leftist at one event.
I thought we had finally gotten rid of you, dukester. I see that you aren't any smarter.

This is a good point. Are you listening Lindsay Graham?
Ain't nuthin' extreme about our right-wing, pro-gun, anti-gov't crowd (other than killing hundreds of Americans in Oklahoma, flying a plane into an Austin building, plotting to kill the Democratically-elected Prez and a lot of policemen.
Sorry, I named more than one, so I guess those don't count.
