This has more to do with Karzai being pretty corrupt and the Taliban currently powerful faction within Afghanistan.

Eh, this and Iraq are different situations. If Obama stated that he would have pulled out of Afghanistan he would not have been re-elected, and would have been painted as weak, etc. The right has already done a number with that one and Obama's been somewhat of a war hawk.

The American people have never really had a problem with the Afghan war because they felt it was justified due to 9/11.

This is a case (in my mind) where the American people are to blame as well. If there was a serious push to pull out of Afghanistan it could happen, but I don't think that's what people want. I'd say people were more angry that resources from Afghanistan were diverted to Iraq.
