Russia reserves opt-out of arms treaty with US - Yahoo! News (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100406/ap_on_re_eu/eu_russia_us_nuclear - broken link)
"Russia will have the right to opt out of the treaty if ... the U.S. strategic missile defense begins to significantly affect the efficiency of Russian strategic nuclear forces," he said.
Moscow welcomed Obama's decision to scrap the previous administration's plans for missile defense sites in Poland and the Czech Republic, but expressed concern about plans for a revamped shield, including a possible facility in Romania.
Lavrov said the site in Romania poses no immediate threat, but Russia could opt out of the new treaty if U.S. missile interceptors become capable of intercepting Russia's strategic missiles.
"We have noted that the U.S. system won't have a strategic capacity in its early stages," he said. "We shall see what will happen next. When and if this system gets a strategic capacity, we shall see whether it creates risks for our strategic nuclear forces."
Don't you love it when politicians climb up on the stump to proclaim how their successes are beyond reproach, only to have those proclamations knocked back down by caveats and fine print?

Who are our allies now, Karzai, Netanyahu, Gordon Brown, Sarkozy? All of these people have seen their relationships with America deteriorate under 0bama. I think our enemies laugh at us now.

Enemy no but they should not be trusted as long as Putin is around
I don't believe Russia is an enemy of either the European Union or any of its members or the United States. I disagree with the U.S. missile sheild on European soil, I disagree with American bases in Germany and the UK, I disagree with U.S. nukes in Europe. I disagree with the US troops using Shannon Airport here in Ireland to transport troops and weapons (over 90% of Irish are against this too).
All this said, people should not forget that Russia is no saint. Their actions in the Caucuses region is despicable. I am usually opposed to military intervention, but if Europe and the United States had real balls, The E.U. Rapid Response forces and the U.S. armed forces should have been on the ground in Georgia. This of course did not happen, because Europeans (E.U.) and Americans are not stupid enough to risk war with Russia.

You mean they finally learned their lesson? Do you know who had the only "opt-out" clause in the last SALT talks? Hmmm? Can you guess??? Let me help ya...W....can you hear me now? Remember his little "opt-out" exercise? Thought so.
A "shield" is better for our strategic plans, and we don't have to train and give away proprietary information either.
