These volunteers all have a huge committment to their church. Good luck finding people with that kind of passion for the federal govt., especially after the Tea Party gets done trashing it.

There is no way to do it without cutting spending and raising taxes at this point. There is no way that we are going to default that is for sure.I worry more about alot of countries going the way of greece than our debt going unpaid.

Allowing the imprudent Bush tax cuts to expire will go a long way to balancing the budget. Then all we need to do is raise taxes enough to pay for the additional $5 Trillion in debt that those cuts led to. Cleaning up after the Republicans is always a mess.

Everyone In america that doesn't have the resorces to leave has a huge comitment to the country. It is their home. We all live here. If you can't see investing in your home and the home of your children then you have a real problem.

Is that a personal attack? I think it is, by golly!

You are proposing "involuntary servitude" to the federal govt. That should go over big with the Tea Party. Maybe I'd like to volunteer for my church instead.

Are We taxed too much?

The problem is the government is trying to extract taxes from the people least able to pay. Our country prospered when the marginal tax rates on the plutocracy were in the 80% range. I suggest we return to taxing the citizens that can afford to pay and leaving the rest of us (bottom 85%) keep our money and attend to our own business.

I disagree At this point the only way out is to grow the economy and to do it now. Cutting spending and raising taxes and growing the economy. All three and NOW.

We are in very much the same shape as Greece. We currently are not in a position to repay our debt. When everyone else figures this out the game is up and we will have to default. Print down our debt.

Where is the source of income to repay our debt? All our jobs are going to China and India. We are insolvent as a nation. We have the opportunity to do something about it

yes but I was also looking at the politics of the situation as well when I answered. Raising taxes to where the budget is balanced is the starting point. When people see the pain that their piece of the pie is causing everyone else then they will be more willing to give up a bit of it.

If we were just spending other peoples money that would be OK. (relatively) We are spending money that we can never repay. That needs to be fixed. And now.
