To republicans anyone to the left of George Bush and Rush Limbaugh is either a socialist or a communist.

They have rendered the term completely meaningless.

Obama is no more socialist the your average neo-con (which is to say moderately socialist).

If you supported any Republican president from Nixon through Reagan through George W. Bush, you have no place accusing Obama for being especially far left of your favored presidents.

Any conservative (or liberal) over 50 who does not recognize this wasn't paying attention to politics and society in their youth. The neo-cons are a far cry from the conservatives of old, and the liberals today don't stray far from camp. In fact, for the most part they are huddled by the fire with Reagan.

The problem is most people in Western countries cannot distinguish liberal social policies from neoliberal economics. Both major parties in the US (and the major parties in Canada, UK, and Australia) embrace neoliberal economics.

The difference between the Democrats and the Republicans really is neoliberalism (Dems) vs. corporatism (GOP).
Yeah, the difference is Dems throw the people a few bones but the GOP won't even do that!

So is Obama "more" socialist than any other president...not really. Only silly true-believers of either party would think that we are not on course toward totalitarianism. We are in the "land of the free" doing exactly what Marx and Lenin designed socialism to do. To make free people voluntarily, peacefully, and gradually choose slavery to the State over freedom.
Huh? Why do you believe that? Since TDR or Woodrow Wilson (the past 100 years?) Please explain.
