Liberals. But it's been used in history for years. Since the early 1900's. Just a progression. A very bad one. Just like hyphenated Americans, the Libs wanted to differentiate themselves and put themselves on top of the junk heap. And as always, failed miserably.

I have a suspicion the "progressives" came from hell. At least that is what they have in store for us.

It started in the late 18th century in Europe.

Teddy Roosevelt was a huge progressive at the turn of the 20th century.

... and while you're at it, perhaps you'd care to explain why "Republican" has now become such a dirty word, that so many have started "re-branding" themselves as "Independents" instead?!

It is because what liberal means today isn't what liberal actually means. Liberals believe in individual freedom, private property rights, limited government and low taxes. Thomas Jefferson and John Locke were liberals.

The term progressive started in the early 1900s and believed in organized labor, standard working condition and believed the government plays an important role in day to day life. The most famous progressive is Theodore Roosevelt. I'm glad liberals now go by progressive because it is a more accurate term for their brand of politics.

The term conservative was coined in Britain in the 17th century (I think). The most famous being Edmund Burke. Burke believed that although the aristocracy had a social contract to take care of the underclass, they were inherently smarter, therefore believed the underclass shouldn't vote. He had a very dim view of human nature and bought into a brand of Authoritarianism similar to Thomas Hobbes.

What a crock! With liberals/progressives they believe in the collective and contantly try to control everyone and everything, private property rights unless the government wants it or some eco nut, massive government and massive taxes.

Let the truth see the light of day.
