Hordes of Hired Guns Earned About $19 Million Per Day As Lobbying Soared to Nearly $1 Billion in First Quarter - OpenSecrets Blog | OpenSecrets

Quote:
Hordes of hired K Street guns are in high demand as President Barack Obama and congressional Democrats seek to implement grand legislative plans.

The $903 million spent between January 1 and March 31 is larger than overall lobbying expenses in three out of four quarters last year, and it represents an 11 percent increase from the $811 million spent on lobbying during the first three months of 2009.
I seem to remember a certain candidate eschewing evil lobbyists during the campaign. He also said his administration, the most open and transparent ever, would not welcome lobbyists into the fold. Well, so much for that promise.

I also seem to remember a certain candidate making promises about the way DC works.

And I thought that lobbyist's only worked for Republicans?

BTW...all three of Harry Reid's sons are lobbyist's. I bet Keith Olberman or Chris Matthews never told you that.

More hypocrisy.

As long as it does not coincide with massah's agenda, it's bad.

Lobbyists love this administration, and it's a mutually symbiotic love. Obama talks out of both sides of his mouth to whoever his target audience is at the moment. I'm surprised, truly, that anyone of average intelligence would actually continue to believe a word he says with all the lies he's told.

**awaits the "but all politicians lie schpiel"** I guess settling for corrupt liars is the new norm.

Thank you for pointing out how much money the Republicans are taking from special interests and lobbyists. It really shows who is and isn't on the take.

Which party do you think that money is flowing to? The one in charge of the whole shebang (House, Senate, WH) or the one that hasn't been able to stop obama's massive spending and government expansion?

Gee, do you think this can have something to do with The Supreme Court's insane ruling that corporations are entities that have the same rights as people and can influence the vote just as individual citizens do? If this bugs you, I would assume that you are in favor of Campaign Finance Reform and realized that the Superme Court's decision was whacko. Hate to say we told you so, but we told you so...

As a result of Thursday’s ruling, corporations have been unleashed from the longstanding ban against their spending directly on political campaigns and will be free to spend as much money as they want to elect and defeat candidates. If a member of Congress tries to stand up to a wealthy special interest, its lobbyists can credibly threaten: We’ll spend whatever it takes to defeat you.

Making out like bandits? No, dear child, that's what happened when we invaded Iraq and sent subsequent pallet loads of hundred dollar bills. Or sent 190,000 rifles and pistols to Iraq, some of which surely killed American soldiers, but we couldn't prove it as our generals didn't keep track of serial numbers. Have you ever memorized your rifle's serial number as a real soldier has? Or are you one of another of those sickly wannabees like Hannity who has never served? Please, Sanrene, if you want people to die, what credentials do you possess?
