Its just that with the oil spill, unemployment, and all of the other problems facing Alabama, I thought it'd make sense to focus on something, other than Evolution.

In GA, during the drought several years ago, our governor thought we should pray for rain. Took a while--this past winter's rain/snow filled the reservoirs.
'God created the earth in seven days and nights'--and who are WE to know how long a day and night might be to God?
There was a flutter of controversy over evolution/creationsism in a conservative part of a county in GA. Didn't amount to much.

I can understand praying for rain, as futile as I think it is. But bashing people for teaching evolution? A valid, widely accepted scientific Theory, makes no sense.
Whats next, the Theory of relativity is going to be excluded from grade school science?
