Bennett to Tea Party: Don't become Carter - UPI.com

More and more GOP politicians and strategists seem to realize that the current political discourse may lead to a congressional majority in November, but long term destruction of the party.

You know how vehemently irritated the teapartiers would be if they heard a president wanted to introduce amnesty for illegal aliens and denuclearize the world? Well, Reagan did. And I bet less than 1 in 5 teapartiers could tell you that.

And saved the "liberal entitlement program" social security by raising taxes. You know, he could give the supposedly socialist Democrats some pointers, seriously!

Reagan would be a flaming liberal by their standards. Hell, didn't Rudy G call him a "leftist"?

I never liked him, but Reagan wanted to attract voters (i.e. Reagan Democrats).

Try talking to a TP'er nowadays. The minute you start asking specific questions, they tell you, "you are not right for the Tea Party". Mmm...okie dokey.

Reagan was pretty inclusive. He had his share of flaws but he wasn't downright hateful like many of the 2010 rightwingers.

If the tea party is allowed by the rest of America to send a bunch of foaming at the mouth racist to DC everything I thought about this country as a whole (not just the south)will change. They are a very dangerous group. Blacks need to beware and wake up. It will be open season on us if they take over.

Bennett who I do not like had it right :

Quote:
"He came to Washington with a clear plan to revive the economy and overhaul the tax code, revitalize the military, and, most important, boost the national spirit. He saw the Republican Party as a big tent and he successfully did what is considered political suicide today: He worked across party lines and tried to find compromise."
Reagan had ideas and solutions unlike the tea party that can just point out the problems.Take right now the financial reform bill that has been debated what is the tea parties position on this important legislation? What is their solution to the illegal alien problem?
Reagan also understood you can not go to DC expecting to get your own way,him and Tip did some horse trading to get legislation passed.
