As much as i'd like to look at this as Democrats siding with illegal immigrants, I think it has more to do with McCain trying to leverage the anti-illegal immigrant sentiment in his state in order to get re-elected in November. We certainly could use the additional troops down there, but this seems as much political gamesmanship as practical reasoning.

On that note, Democrats did just give Arizonans another reason not to vote Democrat in 2010/2012.

I really don't care why he wanted it. Seems those involved are more concerned with political standing than the wants needs and rights of American citizens to be protected.

Democrats dont want to push the Immigration issue too much.
Dont want to alienate all the illegals that will vote for them in the future.

A top Democrat said Republicans were throwing money at the problem and urged waiting until Obama sends up his border security plan next week.
"This is a huge amount of money ... from colleagues who talk fiscal moderation," said Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y. "It's sort of throwing an enormous amount of money at the problem."
Obama on Tuesday promised to send 1,200 Guard troops to the border to support efforts to block drug trafficking and temporarily supplement Border Patrol agents until more agents can be trained. He also pledged $500 million for improved border security. The money could be added to the measure during House-Senate negotiations.

The colleagues who talk fiscal moderation are also the colleagues who know accept the true damage that illegals do to our country and the cost associated with them being here. I'm sure that huge amount of money is nothing compared to the amount of money we pay because they're here. Democrats are in freak out mode, they know the spend as much as you can party is quickly coming to an end.

Did you read it?

In it, it states>
"In the past, McCain has advocated changes to immigration laws that would give illegal immigrants already in the U.S. an opportunity to earn their citizenship. But as violence along the border has escalated — and in the face of a spirited primary challenge from former Rep. J.D. Hayworth — McCain has adopted a harder line on immigration issues."

Goes on to mention harder line actions against the illegals as well.

Ass far as the Dems defeating it, states something about money...yet they are still debating foreign aid funds.

Yes, I read it; I couldnt tell from your OP if you were in line with the Fox article's sympathetic title regarding McCain.

"something about money," how ironic from a conservative. Any guess as to why the proposals to tuck drones, more "equipment" and more agents into this bill didnt pass -- and which side was on the side of not wasting money?

More fox this CNN that, all media is full of crap with their "observations" I just read the article get the points. I made the mistake for voting for Obama, that wont happen again and all he ( and his cronies) has done is **** me off. I was hoping they would listen to Americans, but I think they only give a hoot about thier political standing.

How do you know I am a conservative?assuming will get you nowhere. Some of us dont fall into either BS category.

From the OP's link:

"The Arizona Republican says the security situation along the border has deteriorated so badly that 3,000 guard troops are needed just to help protect his state."

Except that what the Senator says simply isn't true:

"Clarence Dupnik, the sheriff of Pima County, said there always has been crime associated with smuggling in southern Arizona, but today's rhetoric does not seem to jibe with reality.

"This is a media-created event," Dupnik said. "I hear politicians on TV saying the border has gotten worse. Well, the fact of the matter is that the border has never been more secure."
***
Leo Federico, 61, a retired teacher, said he has been amazed to hear members of Congress call for National Guard troops in the area.

"That's politics," he said, shrugging. "It's all about votes. . . . We have plenty of law enforcement.""

Violence is not up on Arizona border
