I've heard this one before and know the answer... but you need to clarify the question.

Are you asking for the longest name as we all know it, or the longest official name?

official name is still the state's name... I'm not talking about nicknames, like the volunteer state.

My guess is "The Commonwealth of Massachusetts" but I'm 99% sure I'm wrong. Can't think of anything longer...and I missed post #2 which actually is.
