After reading the disgusting, childish, mean-spirited comments spewed by those who would use the sad news of the disolution of a 40 year marriage to continue their usual hateful rant, I realized that people this shallow just can't be taken seriously on any issue. So I'm noting names and increasing my ignore list.

There must be a very good reason for a couple to end a 40 year marriage.
Something very, very serious going on.
No matter what one may think of Al Gore and his politics, I would hope that everyone would view this separation as a sad occurence.
Why? Poor Tipper has suffered depression for years - and sometimes it's better to get away from an arrogant control freak who runs around claiming he invented the internet and knows how to cool off the earth.

It's funny -- no one but no one suspects Al Gore to be having a love affair or anything like that. Even the liberals don't find him capable of that.
IMHO, unless you KNOW that you are going to live another 20-30 years afterwards,separating after 40 years of marriage is frankly,pointless.
Live separate lives...but why bother separating?
