Unfortunately due to our broken primary process, in order to get the nomination the candidates have to pander to the ultra-conservative base. So any candidate with more mass appeal and centrist views, who would prove a real challenge to and be a viable alternative to Obama will be defeated in favor of an ideologue. The Republicans will nominate the candidate of the tea party instead of the people, which might provided some interesting convention video but will likely lose in the general.
I would vote for a Republican-- just not one who's a social conservative nutbag.
Two people pique my interest right now: Mike Pence (R-Ind) and NJ Gov. Chris Christie. I'd like to hear more from each of them.
The luster will come off of Christie pretty quickly. He's making news right bow because he's taking on the ever popular teacher union-- That gets conservatives excited, but I think it will be pretty quickly revealed he is not presidential material. Lots of baggage too.
