That's not a quote from the Bible. It's from the gnostic "Gospel of Thomas", which also includes other "enigmatic and strange" quotes like,
114 Simon Peter said to them, "Make Mary leave us, for females don't deserve life."
Jesus said, "Look, I will guide her to make her male, so that she too may become a living spirit resembling you males. For every female who makes herself male will enter the kingdom of Heaven."

21Jesus answered, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me." 22When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth. 23Then Jesus said to his disciples, "I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.
24Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."
Jesus being god all powerfull did not say I will take 50% of what you make because I say you should give to the poor. no he left it up to each individuel to diside for them selves.as far as gays and abortions well that just goes against mother nature.
and I bet most conservatives would kick him out of the US if he came back and tried to walk over here.
How would Christianity spread if all these immigration laws and border fences and ports of entry existed in the 1st Century? Good luck to the evangelists trying to spread the Gospel to nations that they cannot enter (or get deported from) while being persecuted in their own country (the Roman Empire). The world would be a different place since Christ's message is long forgotten and buried.
Why would you assume the "christian" way is anti-gay? I seriously doubt The Christ would ever make such a judgement those seem to come from the ignorant.
I'm afraid I don't accept your fundamental breakdown and thus would not respond to the poll.
Jesus didn't have an American birth certificate either

Why? We didn't kick out Obama and that's what he did.

Don't quote the "gospel" of Thomas. It isn't a canonical book. Get over it.
The OP has a terrific point. It's funny what people will to to rationalize the very clear words of Jesus. He states over and over again in the Gospels that we are to give away EVERYTHING we have and follow him. Now, I know for American society this is a really really difficult concept to swallow. So, we have to mitigate the language to mere poetry. But, you can't pick and choose what is literal and what is figurative in the bible. What gives you the authority?
You surely pick out the fornication verses and use them literally. But when it comes to your pocket, when Jesus starts telling you to come up out of your wallet with some cold, hard cash....you suddenly think he wasn't serious! Ha!!!
Wake up. Either you believe the bible or you don't. The bible doesn't talk about abortion, but you use it to interpreted as murder, but when it explictly says that you should give what you have to the less fortunate AND pay your taxes to your government, you feel it needs to be interpreted as something else. It's just hypocritical. Get over it.

You just don't get it do you. You are not seeing what Jesus is saying. Jesus is telling poeple that their riches are meaningless. That is, they value their treasure on Earth, then that's it, they get it and nothing in heaven. And if you have money you should help out the ones that need it, instead of being greedy. Jesus never said give all your money, even if you are broke yourself, to the lazy. He said to help those that actually need it. Not to give it to a bunch of entitled libs or illegal aliens. We conservatives do give when we can. We don't like the government coming and taking what they want and when they want.
Why don't you give me everything you have. I have done nothing to deserve it, but hey, give it to me anyways. If you are going to harp on the conservs on this, why don't you step up yourself?

If we give away everything we have, wouldn't those people then have to give it right back? We couldn't get anything else done because we would be too busy in that exchange.
