Would like to know what you folks think? I believe almost all the gop's are against it and all the dems were for it until Specter lost. Now we're back to politics and positioning for November

There has to be a day of reckoning and a certain cut off period. The last bill took the UE up to 99 weeks, how long should one be able to collect 3 years?5 years? The economy is going to be in the dumps for years, the only real growth will be in the gvt.
If our chicken s*** reps had a ounce of leadership qualities they would determine the number of weeks that the UE are cut off. That would be fair to them instead of holding their breath for a another extension every 13 weeks.
Since we are supposedly under pay go?they should make dollar for dollar cuts to pay for it.

Here in SE Michigan (UE ground zero), the fast food restaurants and some of the retail stores have "NOW HIRING" banners up again. Even with our 17% UE rate, we have lots of jobs available. The people collecting benefits won't give up their UE checks and Bridge Cards without a fight, and they definitely won't go back to work until UE is cut off.

They are pretty much capping UE at 99 weeks. They have different tier levels (depending on when you were laid off) the cutoff dates for the tier levels is what is generally being extended.

This Country for a decade or more, has been very lax on regulating large business. This, in the name of free enterprise and not stifling growth. We have seen what happens from that, from the financial meltdown resulting in huge unemployment to the Gulf spill, yet there are many who still believe that is the way we should go, and want to continue to send Representatives to Congress that work hard for that to continue. Who's fault is that? Ours! Yes the UE benefits should be extended, those people who lost their jobs, were not responsible. I do think Paygo should apply, even if it requires giving up or delaying a new Battleship or some Congressman's pet perk.

I think this governments choice to bail out Wall St and not Main St has been a slap in the face of the American people. There are hundreds of thousands of people that have conveniently been let go that are over 50 and no longer have benefits,retirement,homes,etc...BUT have paid into unemployment for 30-40 years without a claim! Last I checked the extension part of HR4213 was around $40b...how much did Wall St get?

Even financial analysts believe that the government needs to stimulate the economy with extended unemployment until percentages are much lower, only then can they raise taxes. If they were to raise taxes now there would be chaos!

Also people that have reached 99 weeks are no longer part of the polls (something the media has let pass by so conveniently).

Another interesting point is how can you extend benefits at 6% and then cut them off at closer to 10% ?? Like I said most of the dems were for them until Specter lost. The GOP's lack a real sense of humanity on this issue IMO. How can you be concerned with the deficit when we have no manufacturing and need to get people back to our "service" industry. The old term "it takes money to make money" definitely applies here.

As the UE rate falls, there will be less need for tax increases.

Nope, UE has been to high, for to long. If someone has been on UEI for more than 9 months, its time for them to find a job.

No, IMO it gives people a reason not to look for work. Besides, what use is it to have limits on unemployment benefits if we never stop at those limits?

How about this, nobody needs to work anymore; the government will sustain us all. Free food, free TVs, free cars, gas, phones, healthcare. Everything for free!!!! How many of you think this will work? If you think I'm being ridiculous please state why.
