Hi, does anyone know anything in reference to what it's like working at the Walmart Distribution center in Ft Pierce, I recently went by there last week, on a trip to visit my daughter in Coral Springs, anyway I was thinking about placing an employment application at that location, (getting ready to return to Fl.) but don't really know much about working there, as far as is P/T available, do they pay decent ( I heard a rumor they pay a lot more than the retail end) I signed up to get notifications on job openings, and get several emails per week. The brief job descriptions seem like it's not rocket science, but would imagine it's very repetitive ? Any info would be appreciated. P.S. I am semi -retired and wondering if this would be a match for me ? Thanks in advance!

My friends husband works there and it is very hard work. Not sure if they have part time workers there or not. It is not air conditioned and he works 3 12 hour days a week. He constantly lifts boxes all day long. But I think the starting salary is 17.00 an hour and raises every six months for the first year or two.

Distribution centers like that are typically very, very physical, and the higher-than-retail salary is because they work you really hard. A friend of mine worked at a Home Depot DC and had that same twelve-hour shifts/three days per week schedule, but they paid her for forty hours. Sounded good, until you got there and realized the breakneck pace they have to maintain. I can imagine the pace/job is similar, just different materials being moved. I knew I'd never be able to work at a place like that because I can't stand people rushing me to do things and always feeling like I'm slowing others down.
