My wife and I came here in August, after about a month and a half we both got jobs. These jobs aren't great, and mine is basically on-call work. Mine is about double minimum wage, but my wife's job is only slightly more than minimum wage.

We found a 2/2 condo rental from October to December at PGA village for $850 per month ALL utilities included. The lease is up on December 1st. My Grandma suggested we look for a new place as Nov 1st is generally regarded as the beginning of snowbird season.

Wow! In the last two weeks all the affordable stuff (less than $800 per month) can no longer be found unless it's a dump. I think we'll have to leave. I hear the Carolinas have nice apartments for $600/month in nice areas. I reckon food is cheaper there too.

Real estate prices are on the rise , hence rent prices are climbing as well ..example , bought here in 2011 3/2.5 bath 2 car CBS townhouse under 70,000 ... Now same townhouse will sell over 130,000

Annual leases for the entire 12 months are always normal rent. Less than 12 months are more because of the expense of renting it so often or not finding a tenant. Some people only rent during the tourist season because they can make more than renting it at regular rent for full 12 months and less wear and tear.

You're looking at less than one year, right?

I see 9 condos or apartments for rent here in Vero under $800 all in good neighborhoods. A couple are 55+ though. Annual for 12 months I guess. On Trulia.

Look up Spring Lake Dr it's a nice community but 55+. $650

There's a triplex unit a couple blocks from the beach on Azalea Lane for $800 but that's really cheap for being so close.

I work in Palm City, so I'm looking at Stuart and tradition. I'd be looking at a place for 12 months if I decide to stay.

Rents are at the unsustainable level for the income in the area right now. Many in the area don't have the credit or the deposit to buy and it has artificially inflated rental rates with many former owners now renting and licking their wounds.

I hope you can find something to get by with here. Unless you further your education and/or get into a different career, it will unfortunately only get tougher as the economy improves.

That is why it is cheaper to own than rent.

The economy isn't improving - it's a new bubble.

Well you chose an expensive county.

You are not priced out of Florida, per se, you are priced out of Martin County.

I don't know PSL but I see plenty of apartment complexes under $700 called:

Peacock Run
Atlantis Cove Ft Pierce
Sands at St Lucie Ft Pierce
Sabal Chase Ft Pierce

A 2/2 for 850 utilities included is very CHEAP in FL.

If it's just two people, you'll have to go for a ONE bedroom. 1/1

You're willing to move to North Carolina but not Indian River County?

I don't see how you'd improve the situation in NC with all of their taxes.
