Recent statistics: Saint Lucie County is the HIGHEST taxed county in the state. Do your research and please try to rent a place BEFORE buying anything down here. A $144,000 assessed house (which would be dirt cheap) is $4000/yr taxes, after homestead exemption. Ridiculous. You can add onto that $$ if you want to pay HOA fees for a gated community. Don't know how familiar you are with Florida, but the medical is lacking. Seems like the med-school flunkoutsmove to Florida to practice. Probably need to be close to big hospitals like in Tampa or Gainsville. Here you would have to travel to Miami, and who wants to get car-jacked.

I lived in Port St Lucie not to long ago. Check out areas like Tradition. Very nice up and coming part of the area with good hospital and all new resturants and buildings. Check out St Lucie West all very night and has everything you need. Taxes are very affordable not sure what that other person was talking about lol.
