I just moved from South Florida to Alabama 3 years ago. I am seriously considering relocating back to Florida, but to Port St. Lucie. I have a Master's Degree in Education with a major in counseling. I am a licensed professional counselor in Ms and Al and have worked with addictions and children in schools. Does anyone know what the job market is like for counselors in Port St. Lucie or the surrounding area? I have a house available there and am very interested in moving there, but need to know that I will be able to pay the taxes and insurance! Thanks

Taxes and insurance depend on the house. The job market is very tight-for all kinds of work.

Thanks Lilybeans. The taxes are almost $5000 and the insurance is around $3000, so I need a decent income if I relocate.

Yikes, that sounds like you're getting a really big house for Port St. Lucie standards (around 250k).... the insurance seems a bit high. Is it on or very near the water?

It is not too near the water, but it is about 2200 sq ft and on lots of land.

So what is an average size house in PSL and average insurance?

The land might explain the price (which seems high to me.... bargains galore can be found in PSL). Can I ask what area it's in? What is the street name?

Your Masters in Ed with a major in counseling may just work for a what the VA likes to hire. Clinicians are always needed by the VA Clinics and Ft Pierce VA Clinic is one of them.....If I were once again working and I too have a Masters Degree and 2 years of Schooling for a PhD, the VA is where I would begin my search. Besides the clinics are close to PSL where I too live..

Now I am starting to get somewhere! Thank you so much Synergy1. I didn't realize Fort Pierce had a VA clinic. I have done some addictions counseling, so that may be an option for me. What PhD program were you enrolled in?
