Jobs that aren't retail or food based are tough to find. What kind of education or skills dos he or she have?

She retired from Ford at 45 after 28 years as a QC Inspector and UAW Bargin Chairperson. Like most from Ford she has loads of experience just little education. You are right its tough out there.

What does she like to do? She might want to start as a volunteer somewhere.

Maybe it's Time to go back to school? might qualify for a grant?

IRCC has many employers who have influenced the academic curriculums and thereby creating a pool of employees with jobs waiting. Production/skilled jobs can be found at Grumman, Turbo Combustor, FPL, just to name a few. There will eventually be some QC jobs in the bio-tech industry which has established a foothold in this area.

Time to start looking in different areas... the cheese has moved.

If she is good at managing people, a job as a supervisor may be right for her. I think the hospital is a good idea but also consider the 'call centers', too. QVC, Liberty Medical Supply, PSI are just 3 of the respectable places to work. I've worked at both QVC and Liberty throughout college (came home during breaks and summers and they would put me on the 'special projects' teams). Both companies seemed to be doing well and they have name recognition so I think those are great places to start.

I will suggest for her to visit the Florida jobs office and see how can her experience be translated to a local job. I will say that she is into the manufacturing/QA arena. She can search with government contractor and see if they have positions available.

Using career.com, usajobs.com and P.J. Scout HR can help in finding something in the area. Also check vocational schools, might be able to teach.

See link for manufacturing in FL: NationJob Quick Search
