Hi,

I have been living in Portland with my boyfriend for almost a year now. We live in St Johns and find that although it is a nice area, sometimes it seems that most of our neighbors are older people. Also, it feels a little isolated from the rest of the city. Our lease is coming up and we haven't decided whether or not to move yet. I'd appreciate it if someone could give me some perspective and maybe suggestions on good neighborhoods for younger people.

I don't want anything too expensive like the Pearl district. I've heard the Southeast has more young people but where? There are so many neighborhoods. I'm just trying to find a neighborhood that's not too family-oriented and not too far east or west, either way. Access to bike paths would be a plus.

I don't know if I get easily bored or if St Johns is boring me and another neighborhood would be better. I don't want to go through the hassle of moving if I'm going to be bored again in 6 months. (I know St Johns has its good things)

Anyway thanks for the help!

Have you ever thought about the area around NE 28th between E. Burnside and NE Glisan St.? Near the Whole Foods market? A couple of blocks either side of NE 28th. I would only recommend it to people who are already living in Portland. Honestly, you need to ride the #20 bus to check that neighborhood out.

Two comments BTW: that neighborhood is dead during the day, but after work, there is no place on the street to park your car.

Phil
