My boyfriend and I are going to be moving to the area, and would love some suggestions for complexes that aren't horrid. I've looked on apartmentratings.com but there's only so many on the site, and people seem to complain more than praise. We're looking to live within 10 miles of the Lowes on Hayden Meadows or on 72nd in Tigard. I've heard that Beaverton isn't the greatest. Our price range is under $840 for a 2 bedroom apartment that allows pets. Any suggestions would be greatly helpful!

I don't know why you think 'Beaverton isn't the greatest', my question for you is 'isn't the greatest for what?'

You should avoid living in Vancouver if you work retail on Hayden Island because of the traffic congestion over the interstate bridge on I-5 and shortly it will have a toll to provide $ for bridge replacement - the cost of commute will outweigh any saving in rent.

Lowes Tigard store is in a nice mid-priced area.

To find an apartment you really need to be here and visit apartments. Your comment implies that your bf already works for Lowes. If that is the case his future colleagues at the store may be an invaluable resource for rental apartments.

I didn't say that was my opinion about Beaverton, just what I've heard.

I know that I need to visit apartments, we plan on doing just that in April. I was just hoping for some suggestions from people who have already lived in the area.

I'm the one that works at Lowes, and I've tried asking before but its hard to get responses.

I'll keep in mind that Tigard is a nice area. Thanks for your response

I would look in nearby areas to Hayden Island to reduce your commute time. I have always joked if it takes you more than 20 minutes driving time to get to work here, you live too far away. As for apartment hunting, Craigslist and padmapper are going to be your best options.

The bridge that goes to Hayden is I-5 (which continues across Hayden Island to the interstate bridge). Traffic at 3:30 pm yesterday on Marine Drive trying to get on to that bridge north bound was backed up until almost N. Portland Road. A perfect example of when it is good it is very very good, but when it is bad it is horrible. I don't think apartments on Hayden Island are in their budget in any case.

One poster on this forum found an apartment he loved on N. Anchor Way just east of that intersection off Marine Drive.

There is also a Lowe's in Hillsboro. Plenty of nice neighborhoods out that way.

Well, to start with the Lowes at Hayden MEADOWS isn't on Hayden Island. It's out there on the flats, where Vanport was. So you can get there from lots of places without having to drive I-5. I've never lived in the areas nearby, but Kenton has always seemed like a nice little area, and it's very nearby. St. Johns has nice areas. Anywhere in North or Northeast Portland, not on the river, might be in your price range. Some areas are better than others.
