My mother is on a fixed income of $700 a month. She is looking to move to a studio in the general area of Gresham/N.E. Portland. She has a small weiner dog that is her best friend. So far my search efforts not found anything that meats her income needs. Can anyone help?

Boy, that is not much to live on and the dog complicates your options. You could give this place a call: ULRA Marshall Union Manor

seniorhousingnet.com lists some "low income housing" - like The Commons on NE Hoyt - for about that much. Depends on how old your other is, but I bet the local senior center has some resources, too.

Try googling the Union Manor Housing in Portland. There are several of them. Keep in mind, however, there might be long waiting lists. Also there is the Hollywood Senior Center that is a wealth of information. They are very nice people. I think your best bet is to search out Senior organizations that will have this information. Good luck.

You could try the following link. Retirement Connection - Retirement Connection.com.

Under "Region" select Portland and then under "Category" select housing and it will take you to a list of housing options for seniors.

Here is the list you need. Your mother would pay something just under 30% of her adjusted income (less than the total), for the apartment including utilities. You should find one of these should help you. You can select the area you want, and then click on the apartment name to see what it is. Don't let the listed rent scare you, as that is the rent before it is adjusted for your mother's income. The true rent will be somewhere between 25% and 30% of her income. The rest is paid for her as a subsidy.

This is where you need to start looking. This is the only way she will find a place she can afford at her income.

My mother had a really nice place in Sherwood for $275 Subsidized with the same income. Had a weiner dog too. Contact me direct because I see they have a few openings again.
