I'm from out of state and considering accepting a job in McMinnville. Am I nuts to consider commuting there from Portland? What about Sherwood? That seems to be right in the middle. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Sherwood is an easy commute. My DH does that and it takes him only about 30 minutes. Quite a few people commute from Mac, but I wouldn't encourage it unless you didn't have other options. A friend used to do that, but it took a toll on him, so they moved to Sherwood. The problem isn't the mileage from Mac, but rather HWY99W which is very congested.

Thank you for the reply. Just for clarification, are you saying that Sherwood to McMinnville is an easy commute, or Sherwood to Portland? The job I'm considering is in McMinnville, and we are trying to figure out where to live so that my commute won't be a nightmare, but we will also have relatively easy access to the city.

Anyone know what the commute from Tigard to McMinnville is like? Thanks again!

Sherwood to Portland is the easy commute. Mac to Portland is not, although quite a few people do it. From your post, I would nix Mac.

Tigard to Mac...depends on where in Tigard. Part of Tigard is just north of Sherwood. The commute would be down hwy99w, which as I said earlier is not a good route for commuting. There are some alternate routes, but they are definitely not short cuts or anything you would want to use for a commute.
