I saw some lady sacked out in a sleeping bag in Chinatown last night. She was pounding away on her laptop. So to assume they're all poor or just need to get a job might be assuming too much. It's almost like it's hip or chic to be a hobo in this town.

I live at McCormick Pier (unfortunately) and walk by the parade of them sacked out under the Steel Bridge all the time. I think half of them are kids that just do it for fun on the weekend. They never ask me for money or anything. Usually they just nod or say hi or totally ignore me. The weirdos seem to hang out over on the waterfront park side of the street.

Because there is no job in Portland and the city takes good care of homeless folks.

In Naples Florida, law enforcement used to go on seasonal roundups and offer bus tickets to anywhere north of the Florida border...
