Thank you all so much for your help with our rental hunt for our upcoming move. We found several good candidates this week and my husband's employer flew him up yesterday to visit and try to secure a rental. We were able to rent our #1 choice home, a short bike/walk away from the Woodstock business, Woodstock Park & Elementary (which is the neighborhood school - yay), and a straight shot to the Mt. Scott Community Center (I feel an Active Pass in our future after Christmas).

I just love, love, love our little home and can't wait to see it in person (tons of pictures and a detail flooplan courtesy of my engineer husband will have to do until August). The current tenants too him on a tour (I got to speak with them over the phone). They've been there 10 years and are heartbroken to leave, say the landlord is extremely responsive, fair, and kind.

I'm so excited! Thank you again for all of your help.

Congratulations! Sounds like a great situation. Following long-term, happy tenants is always a great thing. Cute litltle house - and a corner lot! That's always nice. And Woodstock's a nice little neighborhood, and still affordable.

Love the area. I lived there at one time. The only time I ever lived in a house. The little shopping area is nice. Congrats!

I very much hope you can take your cats with you?
The neighborhood looks quaint , but the bars on the door make me nervous....very ,very much not like the Portland where I live and know.

I've lived in perfectly safe neighborhoods where some houses had bars on the doors. Sometimes the salesmen come through with scare stories, sometimes the owners may be generally fearful types, etc. Sometimes, the owners have dogs and want a screen door, but the dogs would tear up the screen!

We do get to take our pets! Actually, the owner really doesn't care about pets at all. He's a super old school landlord, very laid back nice guy. I would've worried he was too laid back had the current tenants not recommended him so highly and specifically stated he is very good about keeping repairs up.

The crime ratings are very low and my realtor cousin assured me it was a quite safe neighborhood. The neighbors my husband spoke to and the current tenants all said they felt very safe there. I think that crisw hit the nail on the head - the house has dog doors all over the place (there are three entrances/exits). I'm guessing they wanted something the dogs wouldn't tear up - none of the surrounding neighbors have bars of any sorts, and none of the windows have bars (including the daylight basement windows). However, I agree - bars on the windows are usually a big red flag.
