Is there a link for it online or a address to order it? I'd like to give it a read but I'm a long way from anyone who might sell it.

Well i don't believe i said anything about deep pearl district? but I know you have beggers at Safeway in the pearl and starbucks and riteaid because ive seen it. Further, being on drugs doesn't indicate that there will be behavior that would get the attention of security in those areas.

Urbanlife, I like your enthusiasm for Portland, and this isn't personal, but this comment is totally nutso.

Sorry, when you said in the Pearl, I thought you meant actually IN the Pearl. Anyway, the homeless in Portland really don't bother me, but we all have different comfort levels.

This gives you a good idea with what Portland's homeless situation is and what the city is doing to tackle the problem.

I'll look at this again tomorrow, but on first skim, this appears to explain the methodology of the 2013 point-in-time homeless count, to define who is classified as homeless, and to explore the homeless demographic in terms of disability, age, gender, etc. I see an inspirational paragraph about how we can end this problem in the intro letter, but I don't see much else about tackling the problem, sadly

I have been harassed by young homeless guys when I didn't give money. I have been with my young son when a guy in his 20's called me a ***** and looked physically aggressive. That wasn't the first time a young panhandler has been nasty to me with my children in the Pearl.

It definitely depends on where you are in the Pearl. The southern edge of the Pearl along Burnside is very different than say north of Glisan. The area around Powells isn't really "the Pearl" compared to the rest of the Pearl if that makes sense, it's basically scruffy downtown.

I'm around the southern edge with my kids a lot and haven't had any bad experiences, but then I just say sorry and move on and don't even notice if anything is said after that. People sell Street Roots at Safeway on Lovejoy but they're always polite. So far the north end of the Pearl is quiet and doesn't have the in your face loitering that the area around Burnside/Couch does. Not enough retail or foot traffic perhaps?

I grew up in a small town so I love how much there is to do in Portland, without the size of the city being overwhelming. It's also a fairly easy city to navigate.

On the flip side of that, I cannot believe how bad rush hour traffic is getting going from Vancouver to Portland! One day last week, it took 10 minutes to get from the exit for Airport Way to I-84 at 4:30 in the afternoon going south on I-205. Ih ave a friend who works in Vancouver and lives in SE and he said if it's raining, it takes about an hour ten to get home; about 45 minutes if it's not. It makes me glad for my nice, little 4 mile commute!

Another big con for me is the dating scene. There seems to be a lack of single 35-45 year old men compared to the number of single women in that same age range.
