See, this is where you'll find out how little any of us cared if it was Google or anyone else offering faster and better service.

This is great news. You would have to be living in a bubble to think GoogleFiber entering the market place didn't push the market. Competition is good.

Wonder their price points.

It's cheap, and Google is rethinking their attempted takeover of the city.

You realize, of course, that CenturyLink is charging $10/month more than Google and requires a bundle to get that price, and is only temporary, right? And that it's only available in a few spots in the city...

But kapetrich is right. No one really cares. The point is to get faster connections and hopefully some real competition to Comcast. If CenturyLink gets motivated to offer service that doesn't suck, good for them. When they get around to rolling out in my neighborhood, I'll consider their service.

The real question is why do you care so much? Why are you so opposed to Google potentially coming to the city, which is already having positive effects for residents (which you are not)? Longtime CenturyLink shareholder or something? I just don't get why any rational person without some ulterior motive would be opposed to bringing competition to a market where there currently is none.

Century link is charging $19.95. And Google does not have High Speed Fiber in Portland.

No they're not. They're charging $79.95 for their gigabit fiber connection temporarily and only if you bundle. https://www.centurylink.com/fiber/pl...rtland-oregon/ AKA $10/month more than Google's pricing. And Google will throw in a terabyte of cloud storage with it. CenturyLink does have some broadband that's no faster than cable for less money.

You could at least try to have some idea what you're talking about.

Oh really? Thanks for that brilliant insight.

Why haven't you addressed the fact the CenturyLink is getting their act together now that they see Google as a serious threat? Or the fact that, if both are available, Google's service will in fact sell for less? That kind of flies in the face of your silly $20 claim though...

Will anyone actually get 1GB/s, or will it be the usual only at 1:00 AM in the morning or only when averaged over 72 hours or whatever complex benchmark they devise to not have to actually give you 1 GB of downlink speed...
