I just found this on another site (on this forum) and I thought you all could use a laugh. I would love to see it , though. Have any of you Portlanders been there ?

Mill Ends Park in Portland, Oregon.

It is the smallest park in the world, according to the Guinness Book of Records, which first granted it this recognition in 1971. The park was created on St. Patrick's Day, 1948, to be a colony for leprechauns and a location for snail races. The "park" is a circle two feet across, in a traffic median which in 1948 was intended to be the site for a light pole. When the pole failed to appear and weeds sprouted in the opening, a columnist for the Oregon Journal, planted flowers in the hole and proclaimed it a park.

I am totally a sucker for kitche' americana factoids, so I had to pay it a visit. Basically its just a section of the median planter along Front (Naito) Avenue. There is a small evergreen (we are talking tiny, itty bitty little thing) and a few annuals. Make sure you do not plan your whole weekend around this "extravaganza" but its a cute little stop while crossing the street. Enjoy. (PS its the street just south of Yamhill, can't remember the specific avenue name) have fun

Isn't the unofficial Portland motto "Keep Portland Weird" ? They have a sense of humor.

Portland also has one of the largest. Forest park at 5,000 acres dwarfs most municipal parks.

I took a picture of the park when I visited in August. Not a great shot but I didn't want to get mowed over by the cars whizzing by. If I hadn't been on the walking tour I would've never known that was it!
