Moving to Hillsboro, OREGON!!

I will have one child in middle school and there is slim pickings of middle schools in and around Hillsboro and they dont look very good!! (plus 1 in elementary and 1 in high school).

Is it better for family life/schools to live up in Rock Creek or Bethany.

I think Hillsboro would be more convenient for shopping and work
but schools look way better just North of 26.

Any concurring or disagreeing thoughts on this...

Thank you!

Money is a big factor. The schools north of 26 serve wealthier, newer housing developments (largely SFH), and there's pretty strong correlation between wealth and test scores.

Rock Creek has a few mixed-income apartments, but for the most part those areas are single family homes. The areas around downtown Hillsboro are very mixed economically - some pockets of wealth but also more pockets of real working class and relative poverty.

The Baseline/Aloha area is also mixed but with more of the housing stock shifting from SFH to apts/condos/town homes.

Are the schools north of 26 actually better, or do they just get a more advantaged crop of students on average to work with? That I couldn't say - when I lived there I wasn't particularly concerned with school ratings.

When the student body contains a high % of parents who are engineers the job of a teacher is relatively easy.

You may want to call Beaverton School District before you consider Bethany or Rock Creek. There has been overcrowding at the schools that are fed by those two neighborhoods and re- districting may happen for new students in that area. Beaverton School District has a very good reputation but be careful before you rent as you may not get into the school that is listed on the District website. PM me if you like. Good luck!

Most neighborhoods north of 26 are Beaverton district not Hillsboro.

Okay, yes. I should correct my question. It is not about the schools itself.. it is about the population that makes up the school. Absolutely, I am cautious about reading test scores. They can be deceiving.

I thought perhaps the population in Hillsboro would be many engineers (from Intel) and that would bring money plus better scores into the school... but it looks like these professions may not be residing in Hillsboro but instead North of 26. Im just assuming engineers are wealthy and smart... not always true! LOL.

If you have the means and are very concern about education, Bethany area is a choice you may want to consider. It is an area that is heavily populated with Intel and high level Nike employees. This means most parents are not from here and moved in the area due to career.

According to the stats education in the Portland area are dismal. The De-nial river runs high here so I leave it to your own reasoning for the cause.

Engineers are usually smart but not all that wealthy. Especially at Intel.

This generalized statement is neither accurate nor helpful.

The entire city of Portland has "dismal" statistics regarding education? The truth is far more nuanced, there are some tremendous disparities within PPS and that's exactly what one needs to research.

I suggest everyone to google to find the truth.
