What areas are best for someone who still likes some night life, cool restaurants and arts? Job market in the hospitality field and/or what field has the most prospects? Cost of living? Hi NickP79 - I'm considering it as well and looking for the same info, except I've never been there. I'm just feeling adventurous.

If I find any good resources outside of this forum, I'll pass them along to you. I've been talking to a few guys on some of the apps and they've been pretty helpful

Mostly what you find on this forum is negative.
I suggest that you should either already be wealthy or have a job lined up first.
Most of the problems Portland faces are nationwide especially in growing cities.

As soon as it starts raining everyone will be bitching about it. Even though we really do need the rain and hopefully will help with wildfires.

Portland is getting expensive but if you are coming from NYC it wont seem like it. If I had to choose any neighborhood and money was not an issue I would live in the pearl. Very upscale and easy to commute as it is very close to downtown. I live in the burbs of Beaverton.

"Curious about neighborhoods that are affordable and are not sketchy"

No such thing in the city limits. Maybe in the suburbs. Portland proper is either run down and sketchy or it's very expensive, there's really no in between.

Jobs in Portland don't pay as well as jobs in New York, though.

Not to mention I believe at least some housing in NYC still comes with rent control.

Rents in Portland are up what, 40% or so the last 5 years?
