As an ex Portland resident and an old guy ( 64 ) I remember Portland in the 60's through 80's, yet I find almost ZERO history, photos or documentation of any kind on the web.
Yeah I know about the various "historical : societies, but they seem to think Portland history stopped after the early twentieth century.
LOADS of "pioneer" stuff too, but almost nothing from the last 60 years. Nothing on tons of stuff I recall from memory, it's as if it never existed! Portland has to be the most poorly documented city in America! God bless the late Alan DeLay or we would have no photos!
SO, as an avid amateur historian a shot in the dark.ANY ideas? Anyplace to look? Anyone to contact?
Thanks!

This is a good place to start:

Cafe Unknown

A lot of Portland history in the archives.
A bunch of good links to other sites, some are active, some are not.

'Lost Oregon" is a good site.

Well, I've heard that one should "be part of the change they want to see...". Something like that. PM me and I can put you in touch with the real thing. If this guy doesn't know about it with regard to Portland's history, it isn't worth remembering. You aren't old. He is though.

I guess I should clarify, Google is pretty worthless these days.I have searched faithfully and constantly for YEARS at this point, same stuff over and over. I am open to print sources. I know Portland well, I'm not a novice. I really do and WILL appreciate suggestions and ideas. Thanks in advance.

no pics of industry in the 40's through 1980 or so. Yes, SOME exceptions , I can Google!
No riverfront industry.
No pre urban development downtown.
No pictures of cruising Broadway! UNBELIEVABLE! Please, no Yaws links.
Nothing on the HUGE hippie influx in the late 60's through 70's.
No pics of the original airport before the present site, after Swan Island.
Little on the railroad yards.
On and on. What's available is largely token stuff, not much.
Even Fleet Week with the damn Rose Festival is 95% modern stuff!

If you're on Facebook, check out the "I was a Portland Kid" page. Great photos from the 50's, 60's and up.

I noticed "car guy " in your user name. Try to find pics of PIR or Woodburn Drags in the 60'! Didn't exist! I have a thread "Great Oregon Racers" on the HAMB to document this! Like pulling teeth!

ALSO! The "PEOPLES FOUNTAIN" AKA THE FOUNTAIN, FORECOURT FOUNTAIN, the IRA KELLER FOUNTAIN.
Hangout for hippies for years, pictures taken all day long, every day. Try to find the, There must be tens of thousands, if not more! WHERE??
POP CULTURE in PDX is non existent!
