My company is transferring me to portland in mid july and i was wondering about the difficulty of finding an apartment. Ive also lived in Houston where apartments are available and cheap on every block but when i moved to Seattle I found it hard to find a good place without shelling out majorly for an overinflated rent.
Ive spent about a couple days a month working in portland for the last 7 months, have friends in NE Portland, and I know the city relatively well. Id like to move into sw downtown area. a friend and his gf live in king towers off burnside paying 850/month. Its a decent highrise nothing special and 850 is cheaper than what im paying now in seattle for a worse place.

Are there better deals in this area or around downtown?
Or can I expect to pay 850/month or more to live in a descent downtown development?

For something like King Tower or the equivalent you're looking to pay between $800 and $950 in that area right now. More for something nicer. Vista St. Clair, which is right by King Tower, seems to have 1 bedrooms for $700-900 but I don't know what they're like inside.
