This thread is fun and all, but it ain't goin' to happen anytime soon. The Mariners control the region and the league would be stupid to create a new franchise at this particular time. Perhaps someday, but not now. Additionally, a major leage team would never be created in Portland without a solid major league stadium construction underway. So far I have seen proposals, but nobody is ready to break ground.

Pioneers won't likely be an acceptable name for racial equity reasons. In the sense that the Oregon pioneers were basically white people who often violently displaced natives and settled on their land. I would be shocked if a city as progressive as Portland ever picked a name like Pioneers. It's not as bad as say "Redskins" but would generate some of the same opposition.

I like animal names like "Steelheads" or "Coho" or "Sea Lions" or "Owls" or "Herons"

But my favorite might be "grey wolves" which native to Oregon.

Or maybe the Sasquatch

Maybe 2030. Again, MLB in Portland is a wish. First build a stadium, then MLB will be interested. MLB will not enter a new market without a major league stadium.
