I'm moving to SW/Lair Hill area in a couple months, and I'm looking for a better deal on my internet cable. The rates Comcast charges are just killing me. Anybody know of a reasonably priced, reliable high speed internet provider? I would prefer DSL/cable, as I need a good connection to work from home. Thanks!

Comcast in the past has an unadvertised special for just Internet, no cable TV, phone service, or wireless router added on. You have to specifically ask for the reduced cost Internet only package with reduced broadband speed. The speed is restricted to 1 or 2 megabits instead of the much higher speed Comcast claims of up to 10mb. Comcast will try to talk you out that reduced rate service. I think they are trying to get the State powers to be to allow them to drop that economy service.

Comcast does have a 1/2 price intro offer to new Portland customers for Internet only service good for 12 months.

Local DSL is even more expensive than Comcast.

Not sure if Frontier FIOS is available in Lair Hill; they compete with Comcast in many parts of the Portland area.

They're all about the same price for the basic lines. (within $5.00)

According to Find Broadband Service Now | DSLReports.com, ISP Information (using Zip code 97239) there is:

Comcast, Clear, Verizon, Qwest, Frontier, Earthlink, Spiritone

Jojo, I'm paying Comcast a lot more than $30-35 right now . I've heard that Clear does actually have decent service. My problem is that I work out of a home office. My telework contract requires either a cable or FiOS internet connection. I checked out Frontier, but I've heard some mixed reviews about both their speed and their customer service. Checked with EarthLink too, but they don't offer the right connection in my neighborhood. So I'm stickin' with Comcast...
