It took awhile for me to get here, but worth the wait. I had no preconceived notions, so every day is a new discovery. The people seem much kinder here, easy to talk to. There isn't such an emphasis on money, what kind of car you drive, you know...superficial stuff like Cali. Haven't seen any boob jobs either

I really feel at home here. So much so the locals ask me why. Why? Don't you see how beautiful it is? How clean the city is, very little trash? How little graffitti? No smog (!) After a rain it smells so good. How nice the people are? I do. California is a great place for yuppies. That I am not. I have found a wonderful Buddhist temple nearby (I used to drive an hour one way). I am making the same I was in Cali, but have a much nicer place in a safe neighborhood (no tweakers next door) and I got Trader Joes What more does a girl need?
You'll get here. Start making serious plans. Until you do...it won't happen. So many details of moving THAT FAR. It will take some time but it will happen if you want it bad enough. Good luck! BTW, I'm a California native.
Now THIS is the Portland I know. I am a Cali transplant too, for the record.
