Hi all,

I have lived in Florida for the past 25 years, but because of an impending divorce from my husband and the ability to move anywhere I wish within the U.S., I am thinking very seriously about moving to Portland. My job is not an issue, as I telecommute from home. I am in my mid-50s, and am particularly interested in the great public transportation and much more temperate climate Portland has to offer, among other features. I would like to purchase a small house (1-2 bdr) with a small yard that I can use for gardening, growing some of my own vegetables. Can anyone recommend likely neighborhoods that would be convenient to public transportation and possibly close to decent shopping (i.e. books, groceries)?

Thanks in advance!

Anne

I'll try. I don't think what you are looking for is available. You can go to older city neighborhoods where you can walk to everything and find houses but they won't be very small unless you stumble upon a "shotgun" house which will have no yard. Your best bet would be to contact a relator or look in Craig's List or someplace like that to see if anything like you are describing is exists.

Houses, even small ones are pretty expensive but there are all kinds of foreclosures and you could probably find a deal on one if you look hard enough.

Thank you; that's probably true. I would probably do better to rent for awhile to be sure the area is right for me. I appreciate your response!
