I know this question has been asked a ton of times about getting a job...However, I don't think music teaching jobs have been discussed.

Has anyone ever struggled with this? Is it hard getting a music teaching gig?

What kind? What level? What are your credentials? Private? Public? Corporate? Obviously you have a harder row to hoe than someone qualified in Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry but the music teachers (piano) I know have waiting lists. YMMV.

Seeking both Private and Public. I have a BM in Music Education. I have taught privately for the past ten years. For the past 4 years I worked with the city of where I'm from and taught in their recreational centers teaching both group guitar and piano lessons.

There are four music teaching careers:

1. K-8 General Music
2. K-12 Strings
3. K-12 Band
4. K-12 Choral Music

Which one(s) are you certified in? If you are not currently certified in Oregon, you would probably have to go back to school once you get to Oregon to meet the idiosyncratic state requirements. Doing that to stand in line with all the other music teachers whose jobs were cut in the last round of budget slashing just doesn't seem worth it to me. If you're willing to accept a less than half-time position, say .3 FTE, the market is less competitive. See EdZapp for Oregon openings.
