This thread is for those who have had numerous miscarriages then had a successful pregnancy and are trying to get pregnant or have gotten pregnant again.

I had over five miscarriages before Baby X due to the following reasons, partial molar pregnancy, missed miscarriages, blighted ovums. Just as we were about to go with surrogacy, a month before we were to start the process I discovered I was pregnant. Baby X became our miracle. The pregnancy itself was high risk due to other health issues and I required a c-section.

Now we want to have another little one and to be honest I am scared. The doctor I went to (new city, new gyn) seemed to shrug off my history and was like well you got pregnant this time around why not again. I am now on a quest to find a better ob/gyn than the one I saw.

Have any of you ever had a miscarriage again after a successful pregnancy or have you been able just to get pregnant again without any problems? I know all pregnancies are different, I just need some reassurance that it is possible and some truth to it.

I think anyone with your history would worry, and certainly it would be possible to have another miscarriage, or a series of them. However, there does not seem to be a recurrent theme to your miscarriages.

The question you should ask yourself is how much potential heartache is worth the probability of another successful pregnancy? You will never know unless you try, and if you do not try, you may always wonder what might have been.

I would suggest making sure that all your medical issues are tweaked to as nearly perfect as you can get them, then go for it!

A consultation with a perinatologist (provide all your previous records) might help to relieve some of your concerns.

You hit the nail on the head with the recurrent theme issue. There was not single common factor in each pregnancy except on the last two miscarriages my HGC level never ever returned to normal. So by the medical profession I was 'pregnant' for over a year and some odd days.

Every time I mention it to a new gyn except the one that delivered my baby on the successful pregnancy and the doctor's in London, they take it as a grain of salt. I have even brought documentation of it.

I will look into a perinatologist and see if I could book a consultation as you have suggested. Thank you so much!

First of all I am sorry for your losses. I had a miscarriage in 2006. I was and still am devestated. At the time my son was about 3 years old. I have since gone on to have 2 more beautiful children.
The fact that you have had 1 successful pregnancy puts the odds in your favour. It shows you can carry a pregnancy to term.
Did you see a reproductive endocrinologist after your miscarriages? Did you have any testing done to determine the reason for the losses. After 3 consecutive losses a full work up should have been done on you.
If you have had 3 consecutive losses I highly suggest seeing a specialist before you try to get pregnant and go from there.
If you have not had 3 losses in a row I suggest you just start trying again. If I read your post right I think you did have several in a row????
Good Luck.

You don't need a perinatologist at this point unless it is determined that you have some type of health issue that could cause problems for the baby. What you need to do is see a reproductive endocrinolosgist that can check for such this as clotting issues, chromosome issues etc

Partial Molar Pregnancy was in 2000 -USA
Missed Miscarriage 2004-England
Missed Miscarriage 2006-England
Blighted Ovum/Missed Miscarriage -2007-England
Missed Miscarriage -2008 two months before successful pregnancy- USA

In England we were going thorough a hospital in London who done test on the 2007 miscarriage and just basically said that there was nothing wrong, it just happens. But because of the partial molar they decided to monitor my HGC levels because after the miscarriage, I was still showing pregnant on urine test and blood test. Then when I got here I had no insurance and we just happened to get pregnant when we moved into our flat. I think with all the stress of the move and stuff I just miscarried. Then I got my ob/gyn who I spoke frankly with and he recommended me to see a very well known fertility specialist in NYC so we could see about doing IVF with surrogacy...my sister would have been the surrogate because she is a gerbil, you look at her she is pregnant. Then I found out a month before the scheduled appointment that I was pregnant.

So through the first trimester we refrained from sex and basically kept my legs up in the air. We also had done testing for all possible defects, which came back fine. Then in the second trimester we had the all clear which backfired because I ended up in hospital with kidney stones and baby x trying to arrive early. So doctor told us to refrain from sex and keep legs up in air. Then third trimester- preeclampsia...totally sucky pregnancy.

Now we moved and as much as we want to have another baby I wonder...

When I get a new gyn, I am going to speak with him and tell him that I need an endocrinologist and if he could refer me to one.

If I was in your shoes I would see an RE who specializes in recurrent miscarriages. I would also get your husband tested for chromosome issues if I were you. That may be the reason you keep miscarrying.

When you had the missed miscarriage and blighted ovum pregnancies was any tissue from the pregnancy sent to be evaluated by a pathologist? I wonder, since the HCG persisted longer than expected and it sounds as if there was some concern for a recurrent molar pregnancy. What is your ethnic background, if you do not mind sharing?

The kidney stones could recur, but not likely.

The good news is that the pre-eclampsia is unlikely to be a problem. It usually happens with first pregnancies.

I still think the prognosis for a successful pregnancy is good. Don't forget to take your folic acid!

I agree about the pre-eclampsia. I had it with my first pregnancies and was fine with my 2 pregnancies after that.

Thanks Suzy! I do hope so and will continue to take my folic acid.
