I am looking for a better place to camp in prescott, we usually go to the whitespar campground, or lynx lake, but they are so devoloped and close together, we hate it.

Is there any legal places to camp out in the middle of the woods? Can we have fires? We have a big firepit we could bring if needed.

Thanks in advance!

Head out either Copper Basin or Thumb Butte. There's also a back road that connects those 2 roads. You'll see lots of places to camp there. I think most of the Mingus Mountain area is in the National Forest and it might be more difficult to find places to camp that aren't in the campgrounds. However, there are several really nice camping areas up on Mingus.

On state or government land, YES. Unless you get a permit.

Try this

Prescott National Forest - Recreational Activities - Mingus Mountain Family Campgound

and this

Mingus Mountain Campground, Arizona

Yahoo or Google maps will show you where Jerome is located.
