I came across this article and I thought it important for folks living in AZ. to read. I am in Oregon right now and we are in a drought, have been for some years and it isn't getting better. Our ski resort, MT. Ashland, for the second year in a row had no snow which means no revenue from skiers and more importantly not enough water for our farmers or our wells. Today it is 100 degrees, this weekend we can look forward to 107+, our wells are drying up, this is serious all over the western states.

Don't stop with the article, there are some interesting perspectives/comment at the end.

A lot to think about, water is gold here where I live in Oregon.

Default hemp vs cotton?

Where in AZ is cotton grown? since this crop uses so much water and in a state with water shortage, why is it still being grown? A better option for the farmer would be to lobby the state to grow hemp. Hemp uses 1/2 the amount of water, it is a $150 million dollar per year industry right here in the US. Why is it that the US can import Hemp but we cannot let our farmers grow it?

Can we ever be free of the archaic self serving thinking of William Randolph Hearst way back in the mid 1930's of banning the use of Hemp so he could cut down his vast redwood forest to make his newspapers?

A great crop is Hemp and if it can provide a good living for the farmers and save water, what am I missing?
