There was literally three other people "shopping" and it felt beyond dead almost creepy. What a shame as the building is really nice. I guess when you had Sears as an anchor store, you're in trouble.

One word, Amazon. Sad, but true. Dillards will probably stay the longest. But eventually the other spaces will become service oriented businesses or organizations. It has/is happening across the country with photos online of abandoned malls.

The mall is trying to stay relevant, there's a few places to shop at Gateway but most people purchase on Amazon and Ebay. If you want a better experience, Arrowhead Mall in Glendale and Arizona Mills in Tempe are better.

Malls in my opinion are dying. Rather like printed media.
Online shopping has taken it's toll

And just think, Sears already had a nationwide, well established catalog sales and shipping setup.
They just did not have the foresight to use the internet.
Sears shut down their catalog sales in 1993 and the internet started up in 1983.
Amazon went into business just after Sears shut down it's catalog sales.

Very cool building but yea....its not long for this world. Same story as the mall in my hometown. That's valuable land with good views up there. I don't think they will hold out for years trying to make it work. Some apartment developer would probably pay up for that land.

I figured it would be more popular being a lot of the shopping is spread out and a central point like a mall would make sense.

No doubt the convenience of Amazon placed physical retail shopping on it's head. IDK, I suppose it was a little shocking to see something like that.

You realize quickly why online has killed retail when you go searching for a item in stores. Often they wont have what you want or even more likely it wont be near price competitive. Many times even if a store is having a 15% off sale the price still wont beat online.

Yeah, 15% isn't a sale. Gotta do better than that to get people in the door.

We buy local whenever the prices allow. Which in Prescott is a 50/50 deal at best.
