I'm a recent transplant from SoCal (General Contractor) and in the process of remodeling our new house. Getting close to tiling the showers and I'm realizing that the method we used to waterproof shower pans (hot mopping) is not even used around here. Hot mopping is a tar based way to seal the entire shower pan and is virtually bullet-proof (of course, if done correctly).

I'm kind of nervous about using the CPE membrane method (although I have in the past in remote areas)

Does anyone know of any hot-moppers anywhere around here? Or should I just forget it and go with the vinyl membrane?

Laticrete Hydroban. I've done five showers with this and turned out great. Prep is key of course.

I've seen some done with RedGard from Home Depot but haven't used it myself. It's another liquid membrane.

Yeah, I called my old tile guy back in Cali today and he mentioned that product. Pretty bulletproof he claims. Or the Schluter system, which he's never used because he's old school, likes to form his own slope on the floor......
Thanks....!
