Hi guys!

My wife and I are coming down for the rodeo around the 4th of July and we're looking for a doggie day care for our two small dogs. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I disagree with the Run-A Muk suggestion....I didn't like the attitudes of the employees or the amount of dogs they had (35-40+ the day I was there) running around. They clearly can't manage their dog "crowd" since they told me they had an issue with my older, CALM, labrador not being more defensive when other dogs tried to show their dominance. Uhhhh....how about you control the other dogs inappropriate behavior.

I would find a sitter on www.rover.com where you can read evaluations of the sitters. I use a person in Prescott Valley that only charges $30 a night, sends photos of my dog playing and or chilling.

K2rider,

Thanks for your input. We'll be sure to check reviews on Run-A Muk before we book there. Any suggestions about a place called Doggie Dude Ranch?

Your advice about a dog sitter won't work in our situation however. We are traveling to Prescott with a travel trailer. I'm sure that a sitter wouldn't want to sit inside a 16 foot trailer with no television all day while we are enjoying the parade and lunch :-).

Check out Hassayampa Canine Resort and Spa in Prescott. I have not used them yet but the owner is veterinarian who also owns a local animal hospital.

I'm sure Run a muk gets good reviews overall. Anyway, using Rover.com, you can choose the search option to only find dog sitters that watch the dogs in THIER home. Nobody needs to stay in your trailer.

I haven't used Doggie Dude Ranch but I hear good things. I need to get over threre myself and check them out so I have them as a fallback option.

We have used both Doggie Dude Ranch and Hassayampa Canine Resort.

Staff at both places are very nice, but we ended up passing on Doggie Dude Ranch simply because the roof is loud during summer monsoon rains and our dog gets very stressed during rain/thunder. HCR has more insulated kennels for thunder shy dogs, so we use them now.

Contact HCR early though and explain your situation. They wanted us to initially drop our dog there for two observation days ahead of time to gauge her temperament and interaction with other dogs due to her being 13 years old. And they want proof of vet approved vaccination records. Now we drop our dog there on occasion for a day time dog play date with other dogs she likes.
