My wife and I are horse folks from the west, now living in New England. We are considering a move to the Prescott area and would like any input on areas that might be horse friendly. We will be looking for property with at least three acres and it can be rural but within an hour or less of a city with medical facilities.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

So far the only area that I have really been able to nail down that's fits your description is the Chino Valley area. I have been doing some looking in that area for my own research. Prescott and PV are REALLY proud of what they have.

Chino is wonderful horse country. I have an acre, which is virtually right next to state land and the riding goes on forever! It is hilly land, junipers and cedars and grazing land, I see antelope and cattle and other wildlife when I am out there. Lots of horses in Chino, lots of trails and riding area, several arenas for penning and roping. You might find it good for you...and it has everything "needed" (Safeway, Walgreens, shops, stores, food), plus only 30 minutes from the major medical facility in Prescott.

Good luck to you!

The "horse" areas (all within about 1/2 hr of medical facilities) around Prescott are:
Chino Valley (north of Prescott)
Williamson Valley (not a town but a rural area northwest of Prescott)
Coyote Springs, Antelope Meadows, Poquito Valley (areas north of Prescott Valley)
Dewey (SE of Prescott Valley)

Most of these are 2 to 5 acre parcels. For mini-ranch horse property of 18+ acres that's mostly far out Williamson Valley and quite pricey (although some prices have fallen substantially this past year)
