While Al didn't make the best moves for the Raiders the last few years, he left a big mark on the NFL. I'm just sad that he left us when his Raiders were returning to respectability. RIP Mr. Just Win Baby!
I've been a Raider fan since the mid 70's and he was the reason the Raiders were winning back then.
he was brilliant. the Raider franchise had the best regular season winning percentage from the 60's through the 80's. and 3 super bowl wins.
But the game has progressed and he was holding the franchise back the last 10 yr's or so.
Al Davis has been around ever since I started following pro football in 1965 or so. Indeed, a few years ago, reading "Instant Replay" by Jerry Kramer (his diary of the 1968 Green Bay Packers season) Kramer mentioned Al, which reminded me of just how long he was involved with the Raiders.
One of the most interesting characters the AFL/NFL ever had.
Rest In Peace one of the greatest Football icons ever. It is a shame that the raiders were in the cellar in his last few years but he has seen some of the greatest teams. Just Win Baby!
Know I know why all the Mexicans in L.A. are out pouring some of their beer on the ground. Pouring it out to honor their dead homie and hero Al Davis.
