As a longtime Jets fan, I wanted to start a thread about the team and for the fans (as opposed to that thread used mainly to complain about Brett Favre). And to start things off...
I think that the Jets got their man in Rex Ryan. Not only a man capable of being a coach, but one whom the players respect and are willing to play for. The fact that he has an historic connection to the team through his father is a plus.
I'd also like to comment that I hope the Favre experiment is over and done with. I didn't mind his rep as a "gunslinger," but it's time for him to announce his retirement, and this time, stay retired.
if favre can still play better keep him around, and he will learn from his mistakes
You're not serious, I hope. That makes him sound like he just barely scraped through his rookie season.
At the moment, who might possibly be the Jets' quarterback next season isn't relevant; it could be anyone. Perhaps we'll even get lucky and actually draft someone. You won't hear me complaining if there really is a rookie at quarterback next year. All I want the team to do is progress rather than regress; going from 4-12 to 9-7 was, at the very least, heartening.
Mostly, what Favre accomplished for the Jets didn't show up on any stat sheets. He gave them some confidence. And there's every possibility that a young (possibly brash), talented quarterback like Mark Sanchez could do the same thing. It's one thing to be a quarterback, and something else again to be a team leader; lots of clubs around the NFL know all about that distinction!
Wait until Shonn Greene gets healthy then you're really going to have a running game. This guy can run over you or away from you. Being a Hawkeye fan I guarentee you he's a heck of a draft pick and will be paying dividends soon. I think they've got him listed as probable for this weeks game with that rib injury.
